Samuel Roy Freimark was born in Monroe, Michigan on March 24, 1946. Shortly after being born at Mercy Hospital in Monroe he was adopted by the late Roy Freimark and the late Edith (Skinner) Freimark. Sam was baptized, educated, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated with the class of 1964 from Jefferson High School.
For thirty-eight years from 1964 to 2003, Sam worked as a laborer and truck driver for the Monroe County Road Commission. He took a medical retirement in 2003.
Samuel married the love of his life the former, Donna Renee Hatfield on April 27, 1996 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe.
Being an avid baseball player, Samuel cherished the time he spent on the field. For more than fifty-six years he played as a catcher, and worked as an umpire for forty years.
Sam was always drawn to volunteer work serving with the Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster and District Commissioner. Sam was a member of the Monroe County Parks and Recreation Committee, the Monroe County Medical Control Authority, and Monroe County Democratic Party.
Samuel "Sam" Roy Freimark, age 68, of Monroe passed away at Mercy Memorial Hospital on Saturday, July 19, 2014. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by father and mother-in-law: Herman R. and Eileen A. Hatfield; two brothers-in-law: Gary and Robert Hatfield; and several aunts and uncles.
To cherish his memory he leaves a beloved wife of eighteen years, Donna of Monroe; two daughters: Serena and Cara (Brad) Wright both of Colorado; one son: Aaron of Colorado; one stepson: Shaun (Autumn) Hatfield of Dundee; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two step grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 10:30am on Thursday, July 24, 2014 also at Merkle's with Reverend Karl Fuhlbrigge, Visitation Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
