Mary McCormick

Obituary of Mary sharon McCormick

Mary Sharon Guy was born on August 15, 1949 in Middlesboro, Kentucky.   She was one of two children born from the union of the late Homer and Corrine Audra (Fortner) Guy.   Sharon moved to Michigan at a young age where she would attend Custer Elementary School and then Monroe High School.

For several years she would work at K-Mart in hardware.   This is where she would meet the love of her life, Samuel R. McCormick a stock-boy.   The couple was joined in marriage on September 23, 1972 at the First Church of God in Monroe.   They would be blessed with the birth of two sons:  Daryle and Michael.   Sharon attended the Michigan College of Beauty for some time until her health prevented her from finishing, but this never stopped her from being the family stylist.

As a devoted wife, homemaker, and an excellent cook, Sharon lovingly was given the nickname, “Sarge” by her boys.   A woman of strong faith she was a former member of the First Church of God where she belonged to the Women’s Missionary Society.   Since 2000, she and Sam had been active at Monroe Outreach Assembly of God where Sam had become ordained.   Sharon served in many capacities including Children’s Church Teacher, Greeter, and Women’s Jail Ministry.

More than anything she loved and cherished her grandchildren, although she never met a cat she didn’t love.

Mary Sharon McCormick, age 68 of Monroe passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at her home.   She had valiantly battled breast cancer the past forty-two months and Parkinson’s for nearly two years.   In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her brother:  Gary Guy in 2009.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her beloved husband: Sam, two sons: Daryle McCormick (Michelle Connor) and Michael (Sarah) McCormick; six grandchildren: Aaron Brocklebank, McCayla McCormick, Hayden McCormick, Jordan Killingback, Grace McCormick, and Keegan Krezminski.

Friends may gather on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.   Sharon will lie in state from 10:00am until funeral services beginning at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Monroe Outreach Assembly of God, 214 Washington Street.   Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.
