Obituary of William Fetterly

William was born in Royal Oak on March 18, 1934. He was one of six children born of the late Sidney Fetterly and Irene (Carey) Fetterly. After graduating from Monroe Catholic Central, Bill served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, from July 23, 1951 to July 23, 1954 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He received a marksman medal when he fired a score of 200 out of a possible 250.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Janet Marchese on March 10, 1953 at St. Michael Church in Monroe, Michigan. For more than fifty years, Bill worked as a plasterer and drywaller. A master craftsman in his trade, he was a member of Ohio Conference of Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 886 in Toledo. He retired in 1996. Bill was an avid reader. He enjoyed woodworking making many beautiful items to be cherished by his family.
William Edward Fetterly, age 80, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family after a valiant fight against lung cancer. He was under the compassionate care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by two sons: Thomas William and Steven James; a daughter: Alice Mary; two sisters: Helen Barron and Maxine Morelli; and a brother Eugene Fetterly.
To cherish his memory, William leaves his loving wife of sixty-one years: Janet; four daughters: Diane(Glen) Ohlemacher, Roxanne Fetterly, Teisha(Paul) Rafko all of Monroe, and Nicole (Scott) Long of Charleston, SC; a sister: Mary Bess Jones of CA; a brother: Gerald of CA; twelve grandchildren: Aaron Bomia of Jackson MI, Phillip(Tracy) Rossi of Pittsburg, PA, Justin Filip of Fresno CA, Sarah Rossi, Marissa and Brad Kitts, Lucas and Riley Rafko, and Katrina Ohlemacher all of Monroe MI, Scott (Gemma) Ohlemacher of Ypsilanti MI, Trista Kitts of Toledo, OH, and Samantha Long of CA; two great grandchildren: Alex and Joshua Bomia of Jackson, MI; and three great- grandchildren on the way.
In accordance with Bill's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and private graveside service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Monroe MI.
