Obituary of Cecil Jones Jr

Cecil Jones Jr was born on March 17, 1928 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Cecil David Jones Sr. and late Grace (Linton) Jones. After graduating high school in Vandalia, Illinois, he enlisted into the United States Navy. Cecil served his country through the end of World War II, with honorable discharge in 1949 at the rank of Seaman.

A month after discharge from the Navy, Cecil reunited and married the love of his life, Louise Rosaland Shrader on March 17, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio. From the union of “Larry” and Louise, came the birth of two beautiful children. Cecil, a devoted husband and father worked hard to support his family through employment with Ford Motor Company. For thirty-years he worked at the Monroe plant where he continued his education and worked his way up to electrical engineer, retiring in 1988.

Cecil was always a friendly and generous man. He was active within his family and supported his grandchildren’s events. A regular at many of the local restaurants, dining with friends and family. Cecil spent his free-time fishing on his boat, golfing, working in the yard, and traveling with family. He enjoyed working on rental properties with his son and best-friend Gary.

Cecil Jones Jr., age 89, of Monroe, passed away at 9:30pm on November 10, 2017 at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his sisters: Velma Leigth and Beulah Pruewitt; brothers: Bob and Bill Jones; and grandsons: Michael and Tony Russo.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his bride of sixty-eight years, Louise; children: Sharon Russo of Hawaii and Gary(Holly) Jones of Monroe; grandchildren: Michelle(Larry) Mau, Rachel(Ruskin) Tansel, and Ryan Jones; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may gather from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185. Friends may also gather at 10:00 am until the memorial service at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at North Monroe Street Church of God, 2393 North Monroe Street, Monroe with Pastor Rick Massingill officiating. Military Honors will be held under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Monroe VFW Post 1138.
