Eugene Boyd Gennoe February 14, 1928 - January 25, 2013 Eugene Boyd Gennoe was born in River Rouge, Michigan on February 14, 1928. He was the son of the late William Gennoe and the late Verna (Campbell) Gennoe. Eugene married the love of his life, the former Maryann Drew on July 31, 1965 in Monroe. Gene volunteered for the navy on his seventeenth birthday and served in World War II, where he was honorably discharged in 1946. Throughout the years, Gene worked at Monroe Tool & Die, Continental Aviation, Laborers Local 465, and he also helped with the family business - Verna's Tavern. He loved life and was known for his infectious smile and hearty laugh. Gene had a special place in his heart for his wife of 47 years "Beanie"; his children "Peachie" and "Genie," and family friend, Sandy Johnson. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye, and each of them was "a Dandy." Eugene Boyd Gennoe, age 84, of Newport passed away at 7:50am on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a sister: Irma Zambo; a brother: William Gennoe; and a sister-in-law: Eileen Gennoe; To cherish his memory he leaves his loving wife: Maryann Gennoe; a daughter: Kelly ( Steve) Sovey; a son: Gene (Michelle) Gennoe; a brother-in-law: George Zambo; eleven grandchildren: Angela Huffman, Amanda Calvin, Brandon Sovey, Chelsea Sovey, Carly Gennoe, Megan Gennoe, Blase Gennoe, Anthony Gennoe, Ryan Gennoe, Lindsey Gennoe, and Bret Gennoe; and four great-grandchildren. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe St (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 28, 2013 also at Merkle's. The Monsignor Todd Lajiness will be officiating. Procession will follow to St. Charles Cemetery with graveside services under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Changing Lives Together Fund at St. Charles.
