Obituary of Janet Irene Toombs
Janet Irene (Funk) Toombs was born on September 1, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was one of three children born from the union of the late James Funk and the late Wilma (Davis) Funk.
Janet married the love of her life, Nicholas Toombs, on September 26, 1964. From this union, they raised three children: Kimberly, James and Amber. Nothing made Janet happier than spending time with her family. Her and her husband loved to play especially competitive bridge with friends. They had a long and happy marriage until Nick’s passing in 2003.
For the last ten years, Janet worked at Walgreens as a cashier. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, though no one knew when she went. It was only apparent by the number of shoes, purses and coats that she would accumulate. She loved her day time television shows, including Days of Our Lives and General Hospital. Going out to eat was something Janet looked forward to because if she wasn’t baking her holiday cookies, she never much cared for cooking. Music was something she enjoyed and would often listen to “oldies” and some of her favorite artists including John Denver and Barry Manilow.
Janet had a passion for bowling and she was good at it. This was an interest that was shared with her mother. They were avid bowlers and she even landed herself her in the “500 Club.” She took great pride in belonging to this organization.
Janet Irene Toombs, age 75 of Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio. She was a former resident of Monroe County. To cherish her memory, she leaves her beloved children: Kimberly Toombs, James (Michelle) Toombs, Amber (Phillip) Navarre; her sisters: Virginia Funk and Jean Funk; her grandchildren: Christina, Logan, Brody, Isabella, Forrest, Talon, Archer, Curtis, Nicholas, Anbreona; and her great grandchildren: De’aireon, Nicholas Jr., Zier, Jade, Britian, Arabella and soon to arrive: Henrik.
