Obituary of Viola Margaret Atkinson

Viola Margaret Atkinson

April 30, 1913 – September 18, 2017

Viola Margaret Miller was born on April 30, 1913 in Monroe.   She was one of five children born to the late Martin Miller and the late Margarete (Krug) Miller.

Viola married her love, Roy Atkinson, on May 6, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church.   From this union came the birth of three beautiful daughters:  Shirley, Dolores, and Joyce.   She was a devoted mother and wife caring for the needs of her family.   For seventy years Viola delivered newspapers.   She tediously cared for her yard and garden.   She often visited the Farmers Market with the fruits of her labor and for many years had raised chickens and sold eggs.

Viola loved to bake and in addition to being a great host she was a hospitable guest always bringing a dish to share.   Traveling with Roy making him meals and cleaning and cooking the fish he caught were all favorite pastimes.   When she had a moment to spare she could be found watching her beloved Detroit Tigers or golf with Tiger Woods being her favorite player.

Viola Margaret Atkinson, age 104, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Wellspring Lutheran Services.   She had been under the care of ProMedica Monroe Hospice.   In addition to her parents; her passing was preceded by her husband on June 27, 1993; infant brother:  George Miller; brother:  Ernest Miller; and two sisters:  Helen Kakoczki and Leona Selvidge; a son in law: Jack L. Revels; a grandson:  Lee Madison V and a great- great-grandchild.
