Obituary of Donald Francis Brown
Donald Francis Brown Sr. was born in Highland Park, Michigan on November 17, 1942. He was one of two sons born from the union of Crawford and Mary (Collins) Brown. Donald has been a lifelong resident of Monroe, graduating from Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central in 1960. He received his spiritual nourishment from St. John’s Catholic Church close to home.
Donald was an intelligent man and had a passion for numbers. He achieved his Bachelors degree from Lawrence Tech and Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University in Accounting and worked for Ford Motor Company as an accountant until he retired in 1995. In his younger years, Donald loved to play basketball. The love of sports followed him throughout his days. He went on to coach women’s softball and basketball. Most recently, he enjoyed trips down to Detroit to watch the Tigers play. In his spare time, he enjoyed model railroading and playing strategy games. He opened multiple retail stores in Michigan under the name of “Monroe Hobbies” from 1974-1995. Donald also loved to take family vacations and travel the United States in seek of the top thrills that roller coasters had for that time.
Donald Francis Brown, age 74 of Monroe, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents: Crawford and Mary Brown.
To cherish his memory, Donald leaves his daughter: Amy (J.T.) Thompson of Milan; his son: Donald (Ambreale) Brown II of Monroe; a brother: Richard (Rose) Brown of Monroe; a niece: Courtney Brown of Toledo, Ohio and three grandsons: Axel, Noah and Luke.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation will be taking place with services to be scheduled at St. John Catholic Church Saturday, September 2. Family gathering at 10:30 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service; 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185.
