Obituary of Robert "Frog" Stevenson Ellison
Robert Stevenson Ellison was born on June 7, 1948 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of James and Ellen (Ellison) Smith. “Frog” as he was best known by family and friends attended Monroe Public Schools graduating from high school in 1966.
Robert married Ernestine Campbell on May 1, 1971. Robert was the proud father of six children: Richard, Lelene, Anthony, Robert, April, and Candice. For several years, Robert was employed by Ford Motor Company at the Monroe Stamping Plant.
Robert was a man of strong faith. He enjoyed reading the Bible and often quoted scripture to encourage those around him. Robert enjoyed writing and journalizing about his personal life journeys and experiences. He also composed a great deal of poetry. Robert was a very intelligent man and he articulated well. He was very engaging on a plethora of topics. His colorful personality, straight forward and no-nonsense way, and talkative nature allowed him to be anything but boring.
Robert “Frog” Stevenson Ellison, age 69, of Monroe passed away at 11:40pm on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at his home with his loving sister at his side. He had been under the care of Promedica Monroe Hospice. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his biological father: Clarence Goings; a sister: Pauline (Smith) Allen; a brother: Ronald Overstreet; and a daughter: Candice Dussett.
To cherish his memory, Robert leaves three sons: Richard (Soledad) Hoskins of Flat Rock, Anthony Hoskins of Monroe, Robert Ellison (Tamla Davis) of Monroe; two daughters: Lelene (Corey) Hogue of Toledo and April Ellison of Toledo; six brothers: Thomas Ellison, Isac Smith, Charles Smith, David Smith, Ronell (Rianna) Smith and Lawrence (Evelyn) Smith; one sister: Carol A. Smith; his favorite aunt: Barbara (Ellison) Ratliff; twenty-two grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Family Hour will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 11:00am until 12:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street in Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Homegoing Celebration will take place at 12:00pm (Noon) also at Merkle’s. A memorial repast will follow at the Arthur Lesow Community Center, 120 Eastchester Street in Monroe.
