Obituary of Junior John Carmon

Junior John Carmon was born on June 22, 1928 in Tazewell, Tennessee.     He was one of four sons born from the union of the late Dan Ernest and Ella May (Hansard) Carmon.    He attended Wiley School.   Junior enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably from August 13, 1946 until May 8, 1947 as a Private First Class.   He was assigned to the 28th TC Stevedore Platoon stationed in Alaska.  

Junior married the love of his life the former:  Mary Elizabeth Ferguson on October 31, 1947 in Middlesboro, Kentucky.   From this union, the couple would share in the birth of daughters:  Janet and Connie.   They moved to Michigan in 1950.  

Junior wasn’t one to let the grass grow under his feet.   He worked for nearly thirty-three years at the Ford Motor Company, Monroe Stamping Plant.   A member of Local 723, he worked as a Chemical Mixer until his retirement in 1985.   For many years he was also employed part-time at Al’s Cabinet Shop.

Junior was an avid golfer being a member of the Dundee Golf Course and playing in many tournaments and leagues.   A great bowler he carried a 192 average.   He enjoyed fixing and refinishing clocks, antiquing, fishing for walleye, and deer hunting.   Neighbors often raved about his fine yardwork and gardening.  He loved woodworking, creating baskets and completing quilting projects with Mary.   He was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.

Junior, age 89, of Monroe passed away at Fountainview of Monroe on Sunday, July 30, 2017, under the care of ProMedica Monroe Hospice.   In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by an infant brother and his beloved wife on May 1, 2015.

To cherish his memory, Junior leaves two daughters:  Janet Ravary of Erie and Connie (Dan) Burchfield of Ida; two brothers: Kenneth (Eleanor) Carmon of Monroe and Vernon (Betty) Carmon of Tazewell, Tennessee; three grandchildren:  Ryan (Angela) Burchfield of California, Josh (Melissa) Ravary of Erie, and Dana (Bill) Raymond of Erie; five great grandchildren:  Dillion Raymond, Jake Raymond, Porter Ravary, Silas Ravary, and Chloe Burchfield.

Friends may gather from 2:00pm-8:00pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service; South Monroe, 14567 South Dixie (734) 241-7070.   A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, August 3 also at Merkle’s with Pastor Roy Southerland officiating.   Procession will follow to Roselawn.
