Obituary of Marcella Mary Breitner
Marcella Mary Brown was born in Monroe, Michigan on November 13, 1931. She was the oldest of three children born from the marriage of the late Avery Brown and the late Margaret (Wood) Brown. Marcella graduated from Monroe High School.
She was married to her true love, James Breitner at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage in Monroe on March 10, 1951 by the Pastor Herbert Fehner. From this union came the birth of three children: Michael, Kay, and David. Marcella cared for the needs of her husband and children as a homemaker. She was a wonderful and nurturing mother, an excellent cook, Marcella, loved to cook for her family, and often shared her amazing skills with visitors in the home. Time spent with family meant the most to her and she made sure to stay very involved in the lives of her children even serving as a Campfire Leader for many years.
Later in life, Marcella enjoyed traveling when she could and visiting casinos. She was fond of her television shows making sure to catch her favorite soap operas, dramas, and most certainly her beloved: Detroit Tigers. She loved collecting pigs and candles. Marcella by far was the life of any family get-together, taking time to sing to and entertain her grandchildren.
Marcella Mary Breitner, age 85 of LaSalle passed away peacefully at 8:00am on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Medilodge of Monroe. She had been in declining health for some time. Her passing was preceded by her parents and brother: Ralph Brown.
To cherish her memory, Marcella leaves her loving husband of sixty-six years: James Breitner of LaSalle; two sons: Michael Breitner of Florida and David (Peggy) Breitner of Mississippi; one daughter: Kay (Owen) Craig of Columbia City, Indiana; her sister: Ruth Kaper of Monroe; seven grandchildren: Stacy Craven, Michael B. Breitner, Kasandra Spencer, Daniel Craig, Joshua Craig, James David Breitner and Rachel Breitner; and eight great grandchildren.
No public services are planned. A private service was held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service; South Monroe, 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070. Burial followed at the LaSalle Township Cemetery.
