My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Fred Bedford. I knew Fred for many years as a dedicated and effective Deputy Sheriff, and after his retirement. Fred was a man whose word was his bond. I think he may have settled more disputes with his common sense persuasion than he made arrests. The world could use more Fred Bedford's for it would be a much better place. I regret that I was not able to attend the funeral ceremonies.

Our family was sad to learn of Fred's passing. I was very fortunate to have met Deputy Sheriff Fred Bedford when I joined the Monroe County Sheriffs Department in 1976. At age 21..Fred was one of my Senior Officers and I credit him with helping me start my career in law enforcement.
Fred was a gentle nan however tough when he had to be.I recall how professional and sharp he was..all the time in his Class A Uniform. You see..back in the 70's we were a para military department. Always looked sharp..boots signed and uniforms pressed and creased. Fred was always a role model. I had the pleasure of working by his side and always knew he had our backs. Fred was a good man, honest, and loved his wife and family.
Fred was proud of his career in the United States Army and his military training defiantly shined in police work.
Fred never complained and I thank him for his knowledge. I worked 28.8 years on the sheriff's dept. With a additional 13 years with the State of Michigan. I thank Fred for his help. He will be missed ..God Bless you Fred.
