Obituary of Wallace Leon Swafford
Wallace Leon Swafford was born on September 18, 1937 in Alais, Kentucky now known as Hazard, Kentucky. He was one of two children born to the late Louis Grathen and the late Elsie (Sims) Grathen. As a young child, the family moved from Kentucky to Michigan.
Wallace married the love of his life, the former: Mary Patricia Mahoney, on April 29, 1961 in Dearborn, Michigan. From this union came the blessing of four children: Cynthia, Christine, Jeffrey, and Gregory.
Wallace was a simple man but extremely devoted to his family, friends and beloved canine companions; Ralph and Jose.
Wallace was a hard worker and extremely devoted to the needs of his family. For more than thirty-two years he was employed by the General Motors Company. Wallace worked in assembly retiring in 1991.
A sports fanatic there wasn’t much that Wallace didn’t like. He especially enjoyed watching baseball, football, and basketball. Wallace also liked wood crafting in his garage, playing pool, and when he had the time to relax enjoy a little television.
Wallace knew what was most important in his life and he always made the most of the time he could spend with family and friends. He loved life and lived each day to the fullest.
Wallace Leon Swafford, age 79, of Newport Michigan passed at 11:29pm on June 10, 2017 at his home under the care of ProMedica Hospice of Monroe. His passing is proceeded by his parents.
To cherish his memory, Wallace leaves his beloved wife: Mary Patricia Swafford of Newport; two daughters: Cynthia Swafford of Newport, Christine (Lonnie) Cornette of East Rockwood; two sons: Jeffrey Swafford of Korea and Gregory (Vicki) Swafford of Rockwood; a sister: Gayle Bryant of Crookville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two canine companions: Ralph and Jose.
No public services are planned a private memorial service is being planned in the near future. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
