Floyd Carnell Sampson July 9, 1929—June 27, 2012 Floyd Carnell Sampson was born in Pikeville, Tennessee on July 9, 1929. He was the son of the late Howard Rosco Sampson and the late Lela (Curley) Sampson. As a young man Floyd moved to Michigan from Tennessee where he lived most of his adult life. In 1950 Floyd married the love of his life, the former Ilene Smith. He served his country honorably, in the United States Army, from 1951 to 1953. For many years, Floyd was employed by General Motors Corporation and was a member of the UAW Local 22. Floyd had a strong belief in the union and what it stood for. Floyd was also a member of Carleton Baptist Church. He liked to camp and fish, especially as a young man, but was basically a home body. He was a good provider and a wonderful husband. Floyd always strived to get along with others and he was very easy going. Floyd was a man who knew what he wanted. He took his right to vote very seriously and discussions on politics could often last a very long time. Floyd Carnell Sampson, age 82 of Monroe, passed away at 5:35 am on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents. To cherish his memory he leaves his beloved wife: Ilene Sampson; a daughter: Brenda (Ted) Rollins of Monroe; a son Floyd Sampson, Jr. of Monroe; four sisters: Emma Ruth (Phillip) Goff of Tennessee, Eula Vee Hall of Tennessee, Martha Joe (John) Dunbar of Tennessee, and Linda Connley of Tennessee; a brother: Arthur Sampson of Florida; five grandchildren: Tim, Janie, Donna, Chad, and Ed; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
