Wanda M. Smith July 4, 1929 - June 3, 2012 Wanda M. (Reiter) Smith was born in Sykesville, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1929. She was the youngest of twelve children of the late Martin L. Reiter and the late Lydia (Dobson) Reiter. She married Thomas L. Smith, of Reynoldsville, PA, on November 6, 1948 at Bethel Baptist Church in Sykesville. The couple relocated to Michigan in 1952. Wanda became a homemaker and took on the responsibility of raising the couple's three children. Over the years Wanda worked a variety of part-time jobs. She was an extremely hard worker and put her all into whatever she did. Wanda and Tom attended church regularly wherever they resided. For the majority of their years together they were members at Alpha Baptist Church in Livonia where Wanda served as a Sunday School teacher. Wanda was very fond of animals, particularly her last pet dog, a Westie named Gypsy. She enjoyed taking walks and riding her bike, especially in Venice, Florida where they spent most of their retirement years. One of Wanda's favorite pastimes was playing hymns on the organ. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, socializing and playing card or board games. Wanda M. Smith, at age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 3, 2012. She was a resident of Fountain View of Monroe and under the care of Heartland Hospice. Her passing was preceded by her parents and ten of her siblings. She will be missed and her memory will forever be cherished by her beloved husband of more than sixty-three years: Thomas L. Smith, currently of Monroe; three children: Sharon L. (Patrick) Mullin of Monroe, Jan (Rev. Dean) Poellet of Williamston, Michigan, and Thomas K. (Susan) Smith of Deland, Florida; one sister: Clara Kokoska of Brockway, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, their spouses, and one great grandchild. A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 9 at First Baptist Church, 1602 N. Custer, Monroe with the Rev. Carlton Younge officiating. A time of fellowship and light refreshments will follow at the church. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with her arrangements. Wanda was cremated and inurnment will take place at a future date in the Reynoldsville Cemetery in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials include Samaritan's Purse and Detroit City Rescue Mission. Online guests may leave condolences by visiting www.merklefs.com; online tributes.
