Obituary of Charlotte "Sue" Kay Hudkins
Charlotte Kay Richardville was born in Monroe on November 10, 1937. She was the only daughter of three children born to Paul and Beulah (Marten) Richardville. She attended St. John Elementary School and St. Mary Academy before graduating from Monroe High School with the Class of 1955.
For ten years she and her friend Ron Gallahan owned and operated Sue’s Resale Shop with locations in Monroe and Frenchtown and also operated an auction service. Sue later was employed by Home Office Connection in sales and by Sundance Auction House.
Sue loved to socialize and be around people. She enjoyed bowling and had participated in the Monroe Classic League and Ladies Sports Center League. She was lifetime member of the Monroe VFW Auxillary, Monroe Moose, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She loved to visit Friday Fish Fry’s and the Knight of Columbus Hall with her brother Steve. Sue enjoyed music and dancing. She was a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church but currently was attending Elevate.
Of all Sue’s accomplishments she was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and their contributions to the community. She taught them about love for each other and their fellow man.
Sue, age 79 of Monroe passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at her home. She had been under the care of ProMedica Monroe Hospice. Her passing was preceded by her parents; a grandson: Brad Hudkins; and a son-in-law: Ronnie Parker.
To cherish her memory she leaves five children: Jean McManaway (Donald Woodward) of Monroe, Janet Parker of Tazewell, Tennessee, Dan (Jill) Hudkins of Newport, Donna (Karl) Rath of Monroe, and Theresa (Tim) Cook of Farmington; a close friend: Sheryl Yard whom she thought of as a daughter; two brothers: Dennis and Steven (Diane) Richardville both of Monroe; longtime-friend: Ron Gallahan; seventeen grandchildren: Justin (Sara) McManaway, Fuson (Teresa) Parker, Kaycee Parker, Jenny (Brad) Ridenour, Roy Parker, Joshua Hudkins (Gina Spratt), Miranda Hudkins, Christina Hudkins, Michael Hudkins, Taylor (Timothy) Crawford, Macee (Denver) McLaughlin, Krysten Rath, Katelyn Rath, Kaleb Rath, Hannah Cook, Cassie Cook, Travis (Stephanie) Cook; and fourteen great grandchildren with two on the way: Harper, Karter, Leahna, Madison, Jason, Dylan, Hadley, Kaden, Bijou, Edisa, Juliette, Fiona, Wyatt, and Rowan; and her little poodle companion: Ebony.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Friday, April 14 also at Merkle’s with Reverend Chris Pittman of Elevate Church officiating. A luncheon will follow at Monroe VFW Post 1138, 400 Jones Avenue.
