Frieda Jean Penny was born May 10, 1940 in Wyandotte, Michigan the only daughter of the union of Charles Eugene Penny and Frieda T. (Rogalski) Penny.
She attended Ecorse Public Schools until 1956 when she transferred to Airport High School and was a member of the Class of 1958. Frieda graduated from Detroit Comptometer School and worked from 1958-1965 as a bookkeeper for the Detroit Offices of the National Food Store Chain.
She married Ronald G. Masserant May 14, 1960 at St. Mary's Church in Rockwood. Ron affectionately called her SUG.
Frieda instilled in her children the value of volunteerism and the importance of random acts of kindness.
She was a devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church serving as Eucharistic Minister and on past Parish Councils. She began the Advent Tea, and also participated with several mission trips to Honduras. She served as the meal coordinator for the Philadelphia House, and was Secretary for the Berlin Charter Township Seniors.
She enjoyed motorcycle tours with Ron traveling through forty-eight states and six provinces of Canada. She was a member of the Monroe Gold Wing Rider's Association. Frieda appreciated a good card game with euchre being her favorite, camping, gardening and flowers.
Frieda Jean Masserant, 69, of South Rockwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, October the 27th at home. Her family was at her side and under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Ron; a daughter: Ronnalee (Dave) Zambeck of Newport; three sons: Chad (Michelle) of Carleton, Kurt (Lora) of Ottawa Lake, and Ryan (Becky) of Monroe; three brothers: Charles (Karen) of Flat Rock, Marshall (Estella) of Florida, and Eugene (Janice) of Trenton; nine loving grandchildren: Nicholas, Noah, Hayley, Ashley, Zackary, Nathan, Lindsey, Luke, and Kolby
Friends may gather from 3:00-8:00pm, Wednesday, October 29, and from 1:00-8:00pm, Thursday, October 30 with a Scripture service at 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, (734) 384-5185. She will lie-in-state from 9:30am until a Celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30am on Friday, October 31, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 8109 Swan Creek Road. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
