Georgia Cawood

Obituary of Georgia Clarice Cawood

Georgia Clarice Byrd was born in Rockholds, Kentucky on March 3, 1930. She was one of nine children born from the late Eddie Byrd and the late Muriel (Rains) Byrd. Georgia was a graduate of Clairfield High School in Clairfield, Tennessee. She married the love of her life, Houston Cawood on April 18, 1947. They were blessed with three daughter and two sons. Georgia was a wonderful wife and mother. She was independent, strong willed, and to say the least one of a kind. Georgia loved the Lord with all her heart and was a longtime member of Dundee Baptist Church. She was proud of her country and valued her conservative Southern roots. Georgia was adventurous, liked a good challenge and her courageous spirt permitted her to defeat cancer three times throughout her life. She was an avid vegetable gardener, a talented cake decorator and enjoyed riding her golf cart. Spending time with family was important especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every year Georgia looked forward to hosting family reunions and Christmas Eve at her home. In her quiet time, Georgia could be found writing poetry, songs, skits, doing puzzles or reading her Bible. Georgia Clarice Cawood, age 86, of Monroe passed away at 9:25pm on February 10, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by two sisters: Nola Muth and Lois Ball; four brothers: Russell, Edward, Hubert and Randall Byrd; a son-in-law: Jim Barrett; and a grandson: Brandon Perry. To cherish her memory, she leaves five children: Carol (Gregory) Perry of Milan, Donna Cawood of Grove City, Ohio, Joy Barrett of Dundee, Randy (Patti) Cawood of Monroe and Scott Cawood of Newark, Delaware; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
