Robert McMullin was born March 12, 1961 in Monroe, Michigan. He was one of thirteen children the son of the late Edward James McMullin and Edith (Buskirt) McMullin. Robert attended Monroe Schools and graduated in 1984 from Monroe High. He was married to Mary Gotha for more than twenty-four years.
Bobby had worked as laborer for most of his life. He was a member of the Utility Workers Union of American Local #543. He then worked for nearly twenty-fours on the road crews for the Monroe County Road Commission, and as a member of the Laborer's International Union of North America, Local #465.
Bobby was an avid outdoorsman. Bobby enjoyed roaming through the marsh or woods in search of his game. Because of this dedication those who knew him well nicknamed him "Cattail". Cattail enjoyed hunting, fishing, and turtle trapping. Nothing could stand between Bobby and the pastimes that he dearly loved. Bobby also enjoyed gaming at casinos.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Robert McMullin passed away. He had been ill with pancreatic cancer for more than a year.
He leaves to cherish his memory a beloved mother: Edith McMullin of Monroe; four sisters: Phyllis J. Kastel of Blissfield, Mary L. (James) Ziegler of Newport, Delores A. (Thomas) Balk of Monroe, Katherine M. (Pete) Robidoux of Monroe, seven brothers: Richard Blakeman of Seattle, Washington, Charles Blakeman of Brandywine, MD, James E. (Pat) McMullin of Monroe, Thomas R. McMullin of Petersburg, Larry L. McMullin of Monroe, David A. McMullinof Monroe, and William H. McMullin of Monroe; thirteen nieces, twelve nephews, seven great nieces, six great nephews, three great-great nieces, and three great-great nephews. In addition to his father Edward in 1992 his passing was preceded by a sister: Barbara Downs in 2006; a brother-in-law: Dale Kastel; a nephew: Darrel Kastel; and two nieces: Annie Blackman and Monica Schlorff
Friends may gather on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at St. Mary Parish, 127 North Monroe Street where Robert will lie in state from 10:00am until a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am. Procession will follow to Woodland Cemetery in Monroe for burial. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 is entrusted with his arrangements.
