Obituary of David Mieden

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Peter Mieden was born on November 3, 1940 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of the late Bernard Joseph and Eleanore N. (Brisbois) Mieden. David attended St. John Catholic School in Monroe and then attended Monroe Catholic Central. David was a true Patriot. He felt that it was his obligation to serve his country in the military. David had to overcome several challenges before being allowed to enlist on January 23, 1961. He served honorably during the Vietnam Conflict obtaining the rank of E-4. Much of his service time was spent in Germany before his discharge in 1964. David was married to Diane Moore. From their marriage came two loving daughters: Rebecca Lujan and Kandice Mieden who both currently reside in New Braunfels, Texas; and three grandchildren: Brooke, Vanessa, and Andres Lujan. David shared many memories with his four sisters: Elaine (Edward) Lewis of LaSalle, Rosemary (Kenneth) Kamin and Judith (Charles) Shackelford both of Newport, and Cathleen (Rudolph) Shorter of Monroe; and his brother: Paul (Kaye) Mieden of Perrysburg, Ohio. David took responsibility very seriously and at the tender age of 24 he became Manager of the Wrigley's Grocery Store in Monroe and Adrian. David made many friends along the way. He always enjoyed the company of others and especially the opportunity to socialize with friends. David was an avid reader, and unfortunately a die-hard Lions fan. Over the course of many years, David worked for several employers in the carpet installation business. He retired in 2006 from Gerlingers where he had served as a Branch Manager. During this time, David developed a rapport with his clients. He was so respected by them that many of his accounts would be loyal to him when he changed employers. They could always rely on his honest no nonsense approach to service. David Mieden, age 68, passed away at 5:30pm, Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Toledo Hospital. His loving family was at his side. His passing was preceded by his father Bernard in 1989. Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 3:00pm until a Celebration of his Life at 5:00pm, Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, (734) 384-5185. The Rev.
