Obituary of Mark Allen Bohmer

Mark Allen Bohmer was born on September 11, 1958 in Monroe, Michigan. He was one of four children born from the union of Howard Bohmer and Mary Ann (Hiszak) Bohmer. Mark attended Mason High School and graduated with the Class of 1976. He continued his education at University of Toledo earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and later a Master’s Degree. For several years, Mark worked as a consultant at Mercy Memorial Hospital System. He was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie. Mark was very active in the church teaching catechism, served as a Eucharistic Minister, taught Sunday School, the Vice-Chair of the Monroe Vicariate Pastoral Counsel, Monroe Vicariate Peace and Justice Committee, member of the Christian Service Committee, and Knights of Columbus. He loved to work with handicapped youth and had helped guide numerous children in the right direction by running workshops at the Sunshine Children’s Home in Maumee for over thirty-three years. Mark loved being outdoors. He enjoyed visiting his cottage in Hillsdale, taking his pontoon out, and swimming on the lake every chance he had. He was a fine grill master and painstakingly maintained his garden and flowers making sure they were always well maintained. Mark liked to go to local garage sales in hopes of finding new treasures or a great bargain. Mark was a happy go luck guy, loved by everyone, with a jolly personality. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at gatherings and going on camping trips. Mark Allen Bohmer, age 59, of Erie passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his home. His passing was preceded by his father: Howard in 1999 and his brother: Karl Bohmer in 1968. To cherish his memory, Mark leaves his mother: Mary Ann Bohmer of Erie; a brother: Richard (Carol) Bohmer of Erie; a sister: Donna (Glen) Hutchinson of Ida; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may gather on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street Erie, Michigan (734)848-5185. He will lie in state from 10:30am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:30am on Monday, February 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Street in Erie with Father David Cybulski officiating.
