Obituary of Michael John Bergeron
Michael John Bergeron was born on June 5, 1938 in Ashland, Wisconsin. He was one of three children born from the union of the late Wilfred and the late Elsie (Nelson) Bergeron. He grew up in the Upper Peninsula and attended Ewen High School, graduating with the class of 1956. After graduation, Michael went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1956-1960.
He truly enjoyed his travels and helping fellow navy men as a Navy Corpsman. Michael met his wife, the former Shirley Vincent, and were married on August 26, 1962. He continued his education by studying at Henry Ford Community College, earning his Associate’s Degree in History in 1969. Michael supported his family working hard as a mail flow controller for the United States Postal Service, finally taking retirement after thirty-four years.
Michael had a quiet spirit about him. Although he kept to himself most of the time, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He and Shirley enjoyed boating and traveling up north; and were snow birds spending the winter months in Florida. In his quiet time, Michael could be found listening to the “Oldies” or reading his favorite non-fiction historical novels.
Michael John Bergeron, age 78 of Newport, passed away at home on Sunday, January 29, 2017. In addition to the passing of his loving wife of fifty-two years: Shirley, he was preceded by his parents; and brother: Joseph Bergeron.
To cherish his memory, Michael leaves his two daughters: Shelley (Brien) Desrosiers of Monroe and Kathy (Mike) Henneman of Trenton; sister: Susan Bergeron of Hurley, Wisconsin; and four grandchildren: Ryan Desrosiers, Brandon Desrosiers, Kayla Henneman, and Lauren Henneman.
