Obituary of Lucas DeLong

Please share a memory of Lucas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lucas "Luke" Michael DeLong, Sr. April 27, 1981 - April 10, 2012 Lucas Michael DeLong was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 27, 1981. He was one of two children born from the union of David DeLong and Michelle (Bonnell) DeLong. Lucas attended Erie Mason School and graduated from their high school in 2000. Following graduation Luke attended trade school and worked for several companies as a masonary. Lucas loved boating and loved to fish. For the past eight years he had turned this favorite pastime into an occupation as a Commercial Fisherman, partnering with his father as a member of DeLong Fisheries of Luna Pier. On August 26, 2006, Luke married the love of his life, Angela Cunningham, and from this union came the birth of two children. Luke loved being a father, and spending time with his children; regularly including them in his outdoor activities like fishing and boating. Lucas was friendly and outgoing, and he seemed to know everyone. He enjoyed a cold beer, and especially loved his sports with Notre Dame being his favorite team. Luke liked to cruise town in his trucks, riding 4-wheelers and dirt bikes, and snowmobiling. Much time was also spent hunting "Up North" with bow or rifle, but his claim to fame came from being featured on local public access television for his big, Lake Erie buck. Lucas Michael DeLong, Sr., age 30 of Luna Pier, passed away Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012 from injuries suffered in automobile accident in Erie Township. His passing was preceded by his maternal grandparents: Delma and Edward Bonnell; his paternal grandfathers: Arthur DeLong and William Gulley; and an uncle: Bruce Bonnell. To cherish his memory, Lucas leaves his beloved wife: Angela of Luna Pier; two children: Lucas "Lukie" and McKenzie; his parents: David and Michele DeLong of Luna Pier; his mother and father-in-law: Michael and Judith Cunningham; paternal grandmothers: Lillian Gulley and Liani DeLong; one sister: Danielle (Kevin) Raymond; two nephews: Kevin "Kevie" and Drew; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 5:00pm, April 12, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734)848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 5:00pm with Reverend Jessie Meyers of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the DeLong family for Luke's children.
