Obituary of Earl Cornett
Earl Cornett was born on December 20, 1924 in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was one of six children born from the union of the late John A. Cornett and the late Bertha (Ison) Cornett. Earl graduated from Line Fork High School in Kentucky with the Class of 1942. He enlisted in the United Stated Army and served his country honorably in the 82nd Airborne. He obtained the rank of Sergeant during his ten year career.
Earl would marry the former Ruby Frazier, and later after her passing he married the former Alberta Bridges. For many years, Earl worked in the construction industry. An Iron Worker by trade he was a member of the Local 25 retiring in 1986.
Earl enjoyed the outdoors often fishing and hunting. He loved to spend time with his friends whether it be on the greens golfing, bowling, or shooting pool. By nature, Earl was an extremely patient man, and had a favorite pastime of training dogs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
In his downtime he enjoyed challenging himself with crossword puzzles to keep his mind sharp. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially enjoying his very own famous family fish fry.
Earl Cornett, age 92 of Monroe, Michigan passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his home under the care of hospice surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his first wife: Ruby; his second wife: Alberta in 2003; two brothers: Raydean and Ellis Cornett; two sisters: Edith and Martha; and a step-granddaughter: Sabina Anderson.
To cherish his memory, Earl leaves his two daughters: Karen Graham of New Albany, Indiana and Tammy Cornett of Wyandotte; one son: Keith (Gina) Cornett of Monroe; one brother: Harold Cornett; four grandchildren: Gwen (Johnny) Marsh, Jeremy (Kim) Cornett, Angela (Bill) Brewer, and Jonathan Franklin; and seven great grandchildren: Nathan, Kara, Dominek, Aubry, Kayle, Colton, and Chase.
Friends may gather on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His life will take place at 10:00am on Thursday, December 29, 2016 also at Merkle’s with Reverend Delmar Moore pastor of Grace Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock for burial.
