Obituary of Dorothy Jane Benore
Dorothy Jane Benore was born in Toledo, OH on July 22, 1932. She was one of four children born from the union of the late Charles and Loretta (Lavoy) Duvall. Dorothy grew up in the farming tradition on the Duvall family farm in Erie, MI. She attended Central Catholic High School in Toledo, OH graduating with the class of 1950.
She married the love of her life, Larry Benore, on April 19, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, MI. Dorothy was a farm girl through and through. She supported her family by managing the farm operations, caring for the family homestead, and tending to her garden. She taught her children many traditions passed down from previous generations such as canning fruits and vegetables. The importance of having a strong work ethic was demonstrated by Dorothy on a daily basis. After Larry passed away in 1991, Dorothy continued working alongside her son Craig, carrying on the family business of Larry Benore and Son Farms & Trucking.
Dorothy enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and so much more. She was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess. Dorothy enjoyed entertaining. Many holiday events were blessed with her famous dishes prepared to share. She was blessed with lifelong friendships, having the same circle of friends from high school known as the “Club”.
Dorothy was known for her quick wit, great sense of humor, and energetic spirit. She was always up for an adventure. She enjoyed travelling around the country and exploring new places, foods, and culture. Activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, boating, and sight-seeing were always welcomed as part of the experience.
Dorothy Jane Benore, age 84, of Erie, MI passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family. In addition to her parents and husband, her passing was preceded by brother: Vern Duvall; and sister: Rita Albaugh.
To cherish her memory, Dorothy leaves one son: Craig (Valerie) Benore of Erie, MI; three daughters: Denise Benore of Defiance, OH, Lana (Timothy) Brief of St. Petersburg, FL, and Brenda (Marvin) Vandercook of LaSalle, MI and sister: Mary Sherwood of Toledo, OH.
Friends may gather on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 2:00-8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service; 9156 Summit Street in Erie, MI. A memorial service will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, October 1, also at Merkle’s Funeral Service, with Deacon George Cousino of Divine Grace Parish officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Cemetary for burial.
