Harriet Breeding September 3, 1917—February 28, 2012 Harriet Mundy was born in Speedwell, Tennessee on September 3, 1917. She was the daughter of the late William H. Mundy and the late Relda (Robinson) Mundy. She married Albert Russell in 1934 and he passed away in 1936. She then married Clarence F. Breeding on December 2, 1939. He passed away on July 27, 1989. Harriet graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee, and later graduated with a Master's Degree in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University. She was a third grade and Special Education teacher at Mason Consolidated Schools for more than thirty-five years. Harriet was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, Michigan Education Association, Eastern Star 226 and Rebekah's. She enjoyed playing bingo and visited the Knights of Columbus and Oddfellows. Harriet had a lifelong passion for children and she always looked forward to their visits. Harriet Breeding age 94 of Monroe passed away at Mercy Memorial Nursing Center at 9:00pm, Tuesday, February 28, 2012. She had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to her parents: William and Relda Mundy, her passing was preceded by a stepmother: Nell, and her oldest daughter: Emma R. Taylor on August 15, 1997. To cherish her memory she leaves two daughters: Betty F. (Robert) Fortner of Monroe and Clare (James) Matley of Erie; eight grandchildren: Carolyn (Jack) Qualls of San Antonio, Texas, "Bill" William (Jennifer) Taylor of Monroe, Michelle (Roger) Prewitt of Monroe, Traci (Jeff) Angel of Monroe, Rob (Lisa) Fortner of Stockbridge, Georgia, Kristin (Jared) Rose of Monroe, Jamie (Rev. Heath) Hunter of LaSalle, Justin Matley of Anchorage, Alaska; fifteen great grandchildren: Daniel Qualls, Rhandi, Makenzie, Shea, and Drake Prewitt, Alexandra (Alex) and Mikayla Taylor, Alexa and Austin Angel, Landon, Paige, and Ashlynn Hunter, Justice Reinhardt, Matley and Szasha Rose, and Skylar and Cane Fortner. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185. She will lie in state from 10:00am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11:00am, Monday, March 5, 2012 at North Monroe Street Church of God, 2393 North Monroe Street. The Rev. Heath Hunter, Associate Pastor of the church will officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.
