Obituary of Nancy Thompson
Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nancy Blaida was born on November 3, 1954 to the late Joseph Blaida and the late Joanne (Hoffman) Blaida. Nancy was a 1972 graduate of St. Mary's Academy. After high school she obtained her diploma form the Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo.
Nancy was united in marriage with Paul Doty Thompson on December 30, 1977 at the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. From this union the Thompson's were blessed with two loving children: Valerie (Mario) Maravolo of Gilbert, Arizona and Roy Thompson of Rochester, Minnesota.
Nancy's nursing career spanned some thirty years. She was employed by Mercy and Memorial Hospitals in Monroe, then in 1986 she began working at the University of Michigan Hospital in their nursing resource pool. As a member of the resource pool she was able to float throughout the hospital lending a hand to whatever department needed it. Nancy was extremely caring and enthusiastic about her patient care. She always put the needs of others first. She retired in 2006.
Nancy was never one for the limelight. Instead she was passionate about the finer things in life, namely her love of family. She found joy in wildlife and nature. Spring was her favorite time of year, and her yard was a testament to her devotion to gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed taking long walks with her children and especially with her beloved Paul. Nancy's hunger for knowledge was varied; reading was a favorite pastime, and she never missed an opportunity to pick up a new book at the library.
Nancy Susan Thompson, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at her Monroe home.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her siblings: Beth Oley and Joseph Blaida Jr., both of Monroe; Cindy Blaida of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Amy Blaida and David (Julie) Blaida both of Lambertville, several nieces and nephews, and all her former colleagues who called her a friend.
She will lie-in-state at St. Mary's Parish form 9:30 a.m. until a Celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2008. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park for burial. Merkle Funeral Service, 2242 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with her arrangements.
In consideration of Nancy's zeal for wildlife, memorials are suggested to the Friends of the Academy Preserve at the IHM in lieu of flowers. Online words of inspiration and comfort may be made by visiting www.merklefuneralservice.com; Life Stories page.
