Obituary of Evelyn Tomczak

Evelyn Clara Tomczak, age 87, passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Mercy Memorial Nursing Center, Frenchtown Twp. She had been seriously ill for the past five months.
She was born September 22, 1920 in Saginaw, Michigan to the union of the late William P. Spriestersbach and the late Pauline Amelia (Remer) Spriestersbach. She married Frank J. Tomczak Sr. October 4, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan.
Evelyn resided in Saginaw for 82 years of her life. She was a 1938 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She worked in Food Service Management for more than 40 years. Evelyn first worked for Cunningham Drug Company for 20 years and then later for the Saginaw Township Public Schools for an additional 20 years. She retired in 1985. She moved to Monroe 5 years ago to be closer with her family.
She was very active in Church organizations at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Freeland, Michigan. She was also a part of the Ladies Guild, a charter member of the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Guild and a charter member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. She was a former volunteer at the Martin Luther Home in Saginaw, Past President of the Martin Luther Auxiliary, and Past President of the St. Matthew Ladies Guild.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Frank (Kris) Tomczak of Monroe and William (Linda) Tomczak of Tempe, Arizona; a grandson: Reverend Benjamin (Kristen) Tomczak of Duncanville, Texas; two granddaughters: Sarah Tomczak and Chandler, AZ and Laura Tomczak of Tempe, Arizona; and a great-granddaughter: Katherine Tomczak of Duncanville, Texas. Her passing was preceded by her husband: Frank J. Tomczak Sr. on March 29, 1999 and her parents.
Family and Friends may gather on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Twp, (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Monroe from 10:00am until a Christian Funeral Service Celebrating Her Life at 11:00am. The Rev. Ross Ulrich and the Rev. Gary Tryggestad will co-officiate. She then will lie in state from 12:00pm until a Service of Remembrance at 1:00pm, Thursday, September 11, 2008 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Freeland, Michigan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
