Karen Sue Stumpmier was born on January 20, 1956 in Monroe. Karen was the only daughter of six children born from the marriage of Frederick and Gloria (Siebarth) Stumpmier. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe where she was a lifelong member. Karen attended Airport High School, and was active in student activities as well as the band.
For thirty years Karen was employed at the K-Mart in Woodhaven. She worked as an office assistant before retiring in 2004. She married David E. Shelton on April 11, 1992 at Trinity.

She was a member of TOPS, and she had participated at Flat Rock Lanes with several bowling leagues. In the past she had served the Trinity youth as a Sunday School Teacher. Crafts were a favorite pastime, and knick-knacks from ceramics, cross-stitching, and needle-point to name a few were gifts given from the heart to family and friends. She enjoyed playing the flute. Karen treasured the time she spent with her nieces and nephews. She took them on trips and planed activities and games at family get-togethers and outings.
