Obituary of John Tackett

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John L Tackett was born in Hazzard, Kentucky on July 21, 1943. He was the son of the late Cecil and Ruie (Burton) Tackett. At the age of five John lost his hearing. The Tackett family wanting the best for John picked up their young family and moved to Michigan so that he could attend school. John would later earn his high school diploma graduating from the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint. John married the love of his life the former Janet Russeau on July 26, 1964 in Monroe. From this union came the birth of two children. For more than twenty-two years until his medical retirement in 1992 John worked as a Laborer for Local 465. With his own hands he helped build local projects such as Fermi Power Plant and Manufacturer's Marketplace. John had a passion for antique cars and hot rods, and he had an impressive collection of die cast cars. John was a member of the Goodtime Cruisers Car Club. He also frequented Milan Dragway where he enjoyed watching his daughter Marie race. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was a big sports fan and the Minnesota Vikings were his favorite team. John enjoyed traveling to flea markets, garage and yard sales when he wasn't attending a weekend car show. He always looked forward to the time he spent with his family and especially Friday night card playing. John L Tackett Sr. age 68 of Monroe passed away at 3:36pm, Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital.
