Please share a memory of Melvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Melvin Malvitz was born in Carleton, Michigan on October 24, 1929. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Frederick Malvitz and the late Myrtly (Scherer) Malvitz. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army from November 17, 1947 until October 3, 1949 as a Private First Class. He married his true love the former Mary Neubecker on April 15, 1950 in Waltz, Michigan. Melvin was an extremely hard worker. For more than twenty-two years he was employed by the Ford Motor Company as a Millwright. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and a lifetime member of the Carleton VFW Post. Melvin was a farmer at heart, and he especially enjoyed taking care of his garden and yard. Melvin appreciated his life orderly and detailed. He often walked behind his Mary and picked up the items she left behind. Melvin liked to frequent the casino, was an avid Detroit Tiger baseball fan, but more than anything else was a wonderful father and grandfather. Melvin Malvitz age 81 of Carleton passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a sister: Shirley Langton and a great grandson. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of sixty-one years: Mary Ellen Malvitz of Carleton; four children: Mary (Timothy) Sayles of Monroe, Thomas (Debra) Malvitz of Newport, Annie (Walter) Luszcynski of Rockwood, and Susen (Don) Wigman Jr. of Monroe; three brothers: Norman (Elizabeth) Malvitz, Frederick (Edith) Malvitz, Harold (Beverly) Malvitz; one sister: Sharon (James) Roberts; six grandchildren: Steven, Kelly, Lindsy, Ryan, Andrew, and Kate; and seven great grandchildren.
