Martha Mae Heikkila
February 17, 1953- July 31,2011
Martha Mae Heikkila (Armstrong) was born in Christopher Illinois, on February 17, 1953. She was one of five children, the daughter born from the union of John Armstrong and Edna (McGee) Armstrong.
Martha was a feisty, bubbly woman that always knew what she liked and wasn't afraid to express it. Sometimes she expressed her personality in her "outfits" that some say only she could get away with. Martha loved gardening and keeping a beautiful yard. She spent many seasons working at the Frank Smith Greenhouse. Martha was addicted to Pepsi and soap operas, spending numerous hours on the phone with her sister discussing the latest episode. She was a proud and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. Martha never met a person she didn't like. Her pride and joy was her son "Billy". Family members say that God put Billy right where he needed to be. Martha also loved her role as grandma Boo.
Martha Mae Heikkila, age 57 of Monroe passed away at 8:16 am, Sunday, July 31, 2011, in the Intensive Care Unit of Mercy Memorial Hospital. To cherish her memory are her children William "Billy" Heikkila, Jim (Missy) Heikkila, and Crystal (Matt) Root. She also leaves behind two sisters: Mary (Doug) Sanderson and Linda Carroll; one brother: Raymond Armstrong; seven grandchildren: Michael, Corey, Clinton, Brittany, Colton, Dennis and Hailey; her best friends: Nancy Proffitt and Shirley Beck; and many nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished.
