Richard Paul Johnson, age 58 of Monroe, Michigan passed away Sunday, June 26th, 2011, peacefully at his home with his family by his side. His passing was preceded by his brother Steve Johnson on June 20th, 2011 and his parents. Richard Johnson was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of the late Duran and the late Lois (Johnson) Johnson. Richard was a 1971 graduate of Airport High School and also attended River Rouge High School. He retired from U.S. Steel after working over 30 years as a Crane Operator. He was a devoted brother, loving father, loyal friend, a fun uncle and great-uncle. He enjoyed joking around with friends and family and had a sense of humor that was contagious. Richard will be remembered as a caring person who was always there for everybody when they needed him. He was liked by everyone and had a tremendous love for his family and many friends. His passion for karaoke will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was also an accomplished song writer who enjoyed playing the guitar and performing as a Disc Jockey at local car shows. He always enjoyed nice cars, antiques, and collecting music over the years. Richard was the loving father of Eric Johnson of Gibraltar, Michigan. To cherish his memory Richard leaves behind one beloved brother Roger (Judy) Johnson of Brownstown; one loving sister Sharon (Kevin) Johnson of Rockwood; former wife Kathy Johnson of Gibraltar; he was the loving uncle of Ron, Mike, Keith, Joe, Kim, and the great-uncle of Keara, Alec, Nicholas, and Julia. He was the loving step-father of Jennifer, Meaghan, and the Poppa of little Gracie. Friends may gather from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 N. Monroe St. (734)384-5185. He will lie in State Friday, July 1, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. celebration of his life at Charity Baptist Church, 17380 Racho Road, Brownstown. The Rev. Steven Jones, associate pastor of the church, will officiate. Procession will follow to Oakridge Cemetery in Flat Rock for burial. Memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to the Johnson Family.
