Steve Michael Johnson was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on February 13, 1954. He was the son of the late Duran Johnson and the late Lois (Johnson) Johnson. Steve was a 1972 graduate of Airport High School.
He was an accomplished musician in the Metro Detroit area playing with Steve King, Gamut, Gandalf, The Moves and many others. His career in music as a lead guitarist lasted over forty years. He also worked for Meijer and Kroger for many years. Steve had a love for music and was a very talented musician. He was an avid Mustang lover and loved restoring cars. Steve recently was reunited with his high school sweetheart Jan Struble, and after forty years was engaged to be married soon. They were looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together.
Steve Michael Johnson age 57 of Monroe passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. His passing was preceded by his parents.
Steve leaves behind his fiancé Jan Struble of Riverview; two loving brothers Roger (Judy) Johnson of Brownstown and Richard (Kathy) Johnson of Monroe; one loving sister: Sharon Johnson (Kevin) of Rockwood; he was the loving uncle of Ron, Mike, Keith, Joe, Kim, and Eric; and the great uncle of Keara, Alec, Nicholas, and Julia.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 10:00am until 11:00am at Charity Baptist Church, 17380 Racho Road in Brownstown on Friday, June 24, 2011. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am with the Rev. Steven Jones Associate Pastor of the church will officiate. Procession will follow to Oakridge Cemetery in Flat Rock for burial.
