Zachariah Samuel Young was born on November 29, 1934 in Gibson Station, Virginia. He was the son of the late John Henry Young and the late Lilly (Stigall) Young. At the age of 19 he moved to the Monroe area.
He had attended Monroe County Community College for one year and in Jackson Community College for one year studying welder repair. Zachariah worked for forty-two years as a welder repairman before his retirement. He was employed by Tecumseh Products.
Zachariah for the most part led a simple life and he always put his trust in his Lord. He was a wonderful father and family man. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Zachariah was a very knowledgeable man who enjoyed carpentry and coin and arrowhead collecting. He was a good, longtime friend to many.
Zachariah married the former Phina Mae Snead in November 1994.
Zachariah Samuel Young age 76 of Monroe passed away at 10:22pm, Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by two brothers: Sewell and Sidney; two sisters: Lucille and Della; and a daughter: Debra Bray
He leaves to cherish his memory two children: Vickie (Paul) Williams of Monroe and Deana (Robert) Bellman of Nevada; his wife: Phina Mae Young of Naubanway, Michigan; three sisters: Josephine (Earl) Stanifer of Monroe, Maude (James) Ramsey of Harrogate, Tennessee, and Haru Frey of California; seven grandchildren: Mandy, Megan, Heather, RJ, Regina, April, and Rachelle; fourteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather at a Celebration of His Life on Thursday; June 16, 2011 at 2:00pm at Solid Rock Church of Monroe, 77 Wadsworth Street. The Rev. Landon Dane pastor of the church will officiate. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
