November 30, 1938 - May 24, 2011 Frederick Charles Slatton was born in Monroe, Michigan on November 30, 1938. He was born from the union of the late Fred Clay Slatton and Helen Irene (Cochenour) Slatton. He served his country briefly but honorably in the United States Army. He married Sharon McCans on September 13, 1969 in Monroe, Michigan. From this union came the birth of five children. Frederick supported his family by working as a Conductor for the Grand Trunk Railroad. His employment spanned some thirty-seven years prior to his retirement. Fred was a quiet person a homebody of sorts. Although he wasn't personally fond of crowds he was adored by his friends and family. He was an excellent provider and father to his children he loved babies and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed working on cars and listening to music. Fred loved to fish and later in life learned the joys of camping. Fred Charles Slatton age 72 a lifelong Carleton resident passed away at 3:05pm, Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Sylvania Care and Rehab Center. He had been under the care of Heartland Hospice. In addition to his father his passing was preceded by a sister: Margaret. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of more than forty-one years: Sharon of Carleton; four daughters: Dawn Boone of Florida, Julie (Daniel) Adamowizc of Plymouth, Robin (David) Sternal of Florida, and Jamie Slatton of Monroe; a son: Frederick (Tiffany) Slatton Jr. of Monroe; his mother: Helen Irene Slatton of Monroe; five brothers: Robert (Penny) Slatton, Gary (Diane) Slatton, Marvin Slatton, Tom (Joan) Slatton, and Jerry Slatton; one sister: Carol (James) Churpudy; nine grandchildren: Ronney, David, Donny, Ronito, Dan, Miranda, Charlie, Wesley, and Dakota; and four great grandchildren: Dylan, Brooklyn, Donte, And Nakita. Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, Friday, May 27, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Veteran's honors will take place at 7:00pm under the auspices of Carleton VFW Post 4093 and Carleton American Legion Post 66. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 7:30pm with the Rev. Dan DeVilder pastor of Monroe Christian Church officiating. Cremation services will follow. Memorial donations for those who desire may be made to the Slatton family.
