Earl David Laskie August 2, 1938 - March 10, 2011 Earl David Laskie was born at Sunnybrook Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan on August 2, 1938. He was one of four boys born form the union of the late William Blake Laskie and the late Vera Belle (Brewer) Laskie. He graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak. Earl enlisted in the United States Navy and after completing Field Medical Service Technician training at Camp Pendleton, California, served as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class. Earl was honorably discharged in August of 1963. For more than twenty-five years Earl was employed by Farmer Jack. He worked as a manager in their shipping and receiving department, and took a medical retirement in 1990. Earl had a great sense of humor and was the ultimate joke teller, he enjoyed throwing his voice to bring smiles to others. For many years he was active with the Shriners in the White Cloud area of Michigan. He held several posts, supported the circus when it was in town, and was involved with providing transportation for children between Grand Rapids and Chicago hospitals. As a young man Earl enjoyed bowling, spending time outdoors, and he loved hunting; bow and gun whether black powder or rifle. The family also spent a great deal of time snowmobiling, dirt-biking, and dune buggying. Later in life Earl enjoyed watching deer and birds. He liked to attend Bluegrass Festivals, perform woodworking, and playing Santa Clause for many years for friends and family. Earl David Laskie age 72 of Petersburg passed away at 7:35am, Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Pointe Place Care and Rehabilitation Center in Toledo. His passing was preceded by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter: Anna (Brian) Trombley of Petersburg; a son: Richard "Rick" Laskie of Hazel Park; three brothers: a twin; Harold Laskie of Hazel Park, Elvin Laskie of Warren, and Cyril Laskie of Michigan; many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 6:00pm, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Masonic Service will take place at 6:00pm led by Monroe Lodge 27, Free & Accepted Mason. Private family burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
