Obituary of James Gray Jr

James Robert Gray Jr. April 24, 1965 - April 8, 2011 James Robert Gray Jr. was born in Monroe, Michigan on April 24, 1965. He was one of four children the only son born from the union of James R. Gray Sr. and Hope Grueshow. He attended Monroe Schools. For many years James had worked in Production for Jefferson Smurfitt a paper manufacturer here in Monroe. He had also been employed as a laborer for the Meijer's Warehouse in Newport. James liked his privacy, and some might say he was even a loner. However, those who knew James best referred to him as a kind hearted individual. He was an avid sports fan, loved to play golf, and spend time with his children, and his dog: Tootsi. James loved listening to his music, and his family considered him a very talented "table drummer". James Robert Gray Jr. age 45 a lifelong Monroe resident beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 8, 2011 at his home. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents: James R. Gray Sr and Hope Musgrove-Rose both of Monroe; eight beloved children: James Robert Gray III of Monroe, Justin Gray of Monroe, Amber Gray of Texas, Jessy Gray of Monroe, Jeffery Gray of Monroe, Jason Gray of Monroe, Abbey Gray of Monroe, and Ashlynn Gray of Monroe; three sisters: Kim Gray of Monroe, Kathy (Mike) Bussell of Monroe, and Kelly Gray of Monroe; three grandchildren: Austin, Jackson, and Kaelynn; and his best friend and four legged companion: Tootsi. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Monday, April 11, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, April 12, 2011. The Rev. Roy Southerland Pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Cremation will follow through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Michigan. Memorial donations are suggested to the family.
