Obituary of Teddy Blackburn

Teddy Marlin Blackburn December 30, 1952 - February 2, 2008 Teddy M. Blackburn, age 55, died at 1:50am, Saturday, February 2, 2008 at his Carleton home with his family at his side. Teddy was born on December 30, 1952 to Buster and Alvie (Owens) Blackburn. After Buster's death Earl Taylor raised Teddy as his own. He married Delia Cooke on October 17, 1983 in Toledo. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and vacationing with them in Tennessee. Teddy was hands-on he enjoyed building and remodeling, he had a passion for speed with go-carts and especially race cars. He enjoyed racing at Flat Rock Speedway and participating in the Demolition Derby at the Michigan State Fair. Teddy was extremely proud of his legacy - his three sons, who have successful careers in metal recycling, Dwayne who has assumed the Vice President position at H and H Metals, and Bob and Mike who operate R and M Recycling in Monroe and Toledo. Teddy worked for 27 years for H and H, a metal recycling company in Inkster, Michigan. In September of 2001 he retired as the Vice-President. Teddy leaves an amazing family, his wife: Delia of Carleton, his mother and stepfather: Alvie and Earl Taylor of Flat Rock; twelve children: Mike (Anna) of Brownstown, Dwayne (Connie) of Brownstown, Tootsie of Flat Rock, Bob (Joanna) of Monroe, Birdie (John) of Melvindale, Tracy (Sorine) of Brownstown, Melissa (Kenny) of Taylor, Emily (Steve) of Flat Rock, Sarah (Ray) of Flat Rock, Ashley of Carleton, and April and Laurie of Pennsylvania; twenty-nine grandchildren: Adam, Mike, Jessica, Nathan, Shawn, Cynthia, Josh, Isabella, Kevin, Bobby, Kyle, Sean, Aaron, Savannah, Olivia, Sorine, Jordan, Hailey, Zacary, MaKayla, Terri, Avery, Arianna, Nathanel, Ally, Aaron, Cody, Cheyenne, and Aubrey; siblings: Randy (Anna) Blackburn of Illinois, Tommy Blackburn of Flat Rock, and Audrey (Dave) of Novi, and Jay (Vena Kaye) Owens of Peebles, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father Buster, daughter: Angel in 1974, and grandson: Teddy in 1991. Friends may gather from 1-8pm, Monday and from 1-8pm, Tuesday at Merkle Funeral Service, (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am, Wedesday at Merkle Funeral Service with Rev. Larry Owens of Sibley Road Baptist Church officiating. He will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park, Huron Township.
