Catalina (Monges) Casaigne
November 14, 1925 - October 10, 2011
Catalina Monges was born in Puerto Rico on November 14, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Nicomedes Monges and the late Ramona (Rivera) Monges.
Catalina moved from Puerto Rico to New York and then settled in Detroit where she resided most of her life. She married the love of her life Felix Casaigne. Catalina was a homemaker. She was a loyal loving wife and mother. Catalina put her family first and was willing to sacrifice everything for the well-being of her children.
She was a spicy, feisty, strong-willed Puerto Rican. Catalina never learned English in fact she refused to try. She was full of life, brave. Catalina was an excellent cook, and her large inviting meals always brought joy to others.
Catalina Casaigne age 85 of Ocala, Florida passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at Palm Gardens of Ocala. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her beloved husband: Felix on June 14, 1996, and her son Luis Angel Clemente.
To cherish her memory she leaves: three daughters: Migdalia (Fernando) Cruz of Ocala, Florida, Luzmaria (Ramon) Moreira of Puerto Rico, and Estelle (Morris) Medina of Newport; two sons: Julio Casaigne and Alberto Casaigne, both of Detroit; thirteen grandchildren: Fernando II, Edgardo, Lisandra, Vanessa, Luis Ramon, Catherine, Samara, Jacqueline, Laura, Albert, Yaritza, Joey, and Mercedes; nine great grandchildren: Tiara, Alexia, Briana, Tristan, Amanda Sofia, Sergio, Brian, Ryan, and Ariana.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am, Monday, October 17, 2011 also at Merkle's. The Rev. Rick Massingill, pastor of the North Monroe Street Church of God, will officiate. Burial will follow at Detroit Memorial Park West in Redford.
