Stanley "Stan" Leroy Miller Sr.
August 7, 1954 - February 16, 2012
Stanley Leroy Miller was born in Monroe on August 7, 1954. He was the son of the late Jerry Miller and the late Betty (Austin) Miller. Stan was raised by his late stepfather: Carl Liesinger. Stanley attended Erie Mason High School and obtained his G.E.D. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army. He obtained the rank of SP4
He married the love of his life the former Barbara Howard on June 6, 1972. From this union came the birth of three loving children. Stan worked as a Unit Leader for Auto Alliance in Flat Rock from 1988 until 2008. From 1987 until 1999 Stanley and Barbara operated Frenchtown Video located at the entrance of Detroit Beach.
Stan was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling Up North, and camping. When camping he loved to stay in tents and be near the water even into November and December. Stan loved to ride his motorcycle and cherished the time he spent with his family.
Stan, age 57 of Monroe passed away at home on Thursday, February 16, 2012 under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. His passing was preceded by both parents and his stepfather.
To cherish his memory Stanley leaves a beloved wife of nearly forty years: Barbara of Monroe; two daughters: Misty (Marco Kalagian) Gekle of Dundee and Angela (Josh) Chumley of Warrenton, VA; one son: Stanley Miller Jr. of Monroe; three sisters: Annis (John) Meimaridis of Belleville, Terri (Rennie) Patterson of LaSalle, and Tammi (Mike) Myers of LaSalle; one brother: Lonnie (Lynnette)Miller of Monroe; thirteen grandchildren: Storm, Marriah, Hunter, Haleigh, Chancellor, Casen, Gabriel, Elijah, Abram, Gracie May, Sebastian, Stanley III, and Addison; his mother and father-in-law: Anna and Leo Zalewski; two brothers-in-law: Al (Shanna) Howard and John Howard; and two sisters-in-law: Peggy (Guy) Hughes and Michele (Wayne) Ratliff.
Friends may gather from 3:00-8:00pm, Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, February 20, 2012 also at Merkle's with Father Robert Mossett pastor of St. Anne's officiating. Procession will follow to LaSalle Township Cemetery for burial where graveside services will be under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138.
