William Bernard Brick Jr. was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 29, 1935. He was the son of the late William Bernard Brick Sr. and the late Rita (Fleming) Brick. William grew up in Detroit. He spent summers working on a farm for his aunt and uncle in West Branch earning $15.00 per week. After completing high school he took employment with Ford Motor Company. He attended Henry Ford Community College for two years, and later attended a four year trade school to hone his skills.
William served ten years as a volunteer firefighter for Redford Township from 1960 to 1970. His career for Ford would span more than thirty-five years as a Tool and Die leader retiring in 1988. He was a member of the U.A.W.
William was very proud of his Irish heritage and he was a man of many talents. He built ships as a hobby, and he had picked up a 1967 Mustang, that he loved, from a junk yard that he completely refurbished with the help of his son, Kevin. As a young man, William, enjoyed playing the banjo, and recently he had begun sharing this joy with his grandchildren.
He married the former Kathy Ann (Connolly) on June 6, 1997 in Ohio.
William lived in the tri-county area his entire life; starting in Detroit then Redford and then moving to Gibraltar and Huron Township and finally settling in Flat Rock.
William Bernard Brick Jr. age 75 of Flat Rock passed away at 11:00pm, Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife: Kathy Ann Brick of Flat Rock; five children: Lynn Jackovich of Florida, Kathy Talarico of Troy, Lisa Baynai of Florida, Kevin Brick of Florida, and Lori Colby of South Lyon; two step children: Kimberly Connolly of Detroit and Michael (Lydia) Connolly of Monroe; two sisters: Pat (Harry) Tuckfield and Mary Olszewski; and a brother: Thomas Brick; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 4, 2010. The Rev. Kenny Spain, Associate Pastor, of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate.
