August 15, 1923 - December 27, 2007
Mary Margaret Radcliffe, age 84, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at her home.
She was born August 15, 1923 in Middletown, Ohio the daughter of John and Nellie (Lorenz) Walters. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1935. She was a 1941 graduate of Monroe High School. Mary had worked for several years as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Company. On January 15, 1942 in Carleton, Michigan she married Roy "Red" Radcliffe.
Mary was a loving and devoted person. She always enjoyed the company of her family, neighbors, and friends. She was a very committed member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She had served as a council person and was past president of the United Church Women. In 1974 she was selected as the Monroe Council of Church's Church Woman of the Year. She had also been a member of the Hospital Mother's Club where she had served as a secretary and treasurer.
Mary was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and she enjoyed many trips to the ballpark. A trip to Comerica Park in August was the highlight of her 84th birthday as she witnessed her name displayed on the scoreboard.
Survivors include three children: Ritchie J. and Virginia Radcliffe of LaSalle, Carolyn J. and Mickey L. Fashbaugh of Ida, and Marcia A. and Joel Sack of Fredericksburg, Virginia; a brother: Lorenz Walters of Monroe; a sister: Lois Lapp of Ida; grandchildren: Kendra Radcliffe of Adrian, Kristen and Ronnie Jones of Monroe, Brad Fashbaugh of Dearborn Heights, Sarah Sack and Bryan Sack both of Fredericksburg; and two great grandchildren: Payton Radcliffe and Kaylee Jones; a sister-in-law: Cynthia Driessche, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Red" in 1990 and a brother John Walters.
A Gathering for friends will be held Sunday, December 30, 2007 from 1-8pm at the Merkle Funeral Home, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township. Friends may also gather from 10:00am until funeral services at 11:00am, Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The Rev. Evans Bentley will officiate. Procession and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
