Donald Edward Valerio Sr.
February 28, 1942 - May 19, 2010
Donald Edward Valerio was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 28, 1942. He was one of six children born from the union of the late Albert Valerio and the late Dorothy (Robinson) Valerio. Donald attended Mason Consolidated Schools, and he was married to the former Linda Ellison on February 16, 1963 by Judge Lajiness in Monroe.
He had worked in the construction industry and even installed swimming pools by hand for several years prior to taking employment with the Ford Motor Company. Donald worked at the Monroe plant for more than twenty-eight years before his retirement.
He loved his children and was extremely proud of them. Donald enjoyed visits to garage sales and flea markets, and fishing and hunting were also favorite pastimes. He was the ultimate provider. Donald liked to cook and loved feeding others. He also enjoyed working in his garden and yard.
Donald Edward Valerio Sr. 68 of LaSalle passed away at 8:16am, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at his home. He was under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice and the watchful eyes of his beloved family. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a son: Jason Valerio on December 22, 1999; a sister: Darlene Turner, his friend and son-in-law: Gary Lee Bomia three months to the day on February 19, 2010, and his grandparents: Umberto and Julia Valerio and Antonio and Mary Guiseppi.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife: Linda of LaSalle; his stepmother: Donna Jordan of Sylvania; four children: Tina Bomia of Monroe, Donald Valerio Jr. of LaSalle, Lisa Valerio of Toledo, and Jamie (Steve) Spaulding of Adrian; a sister: Kim McMahon of Wauseon, Ohio; three brothers: Roger of Sylvania, Gary of Swanton, and David of Toledo; six grandchildren: Eric Bomia, Melanie Tapley, Shaun Ziegler, Rush Ziegler, Andrea Anteau, and Jason Spaulding; and four great grandchildren: Starr Anteau, Skyla Tickle, Gary Lee Valerio Bomia, and Seth Clark.
Friends may gather from 10:00am until a Celebration of His Life at 1:00pm, Monday, May 24, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Family and Friends will lead a service of remembrance. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
