Obituary of Raymond Pfund

Raymond Arlo Pfund was born October 9, 1939 in Monroe. He was born from the union of the late Raymond A. Pfund Sr. and the late Betty (Quick) Uhlik. Graduating from Monroe High School in 1957, he later honorably served in the United States Army. Raymond married the love of his life Elaine Holeman on July 21, 1962. From this union would come two beautiful children. Raymond supported his family for seventeen years working at La-Z-Boy Incorporated until they closed, and as a steel worker at North Star for twenty-four years as a saw operator taking retirement in 2003. Raymond was quite the jokester, always poking fun at others. Often at times, no one could take him seriously. He was an avid fisherman who could not wait to get then next "catch." He liked bowling, spending time at the casino and was an enthusiastic Tiger and Cub fan. Raymond thought the world of his family, enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to the next family birthday or holiday. In his quiet time, he enjoyed relaxing on his back porch and feeding the birds. Raymond Arlo Pfund Jr., age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents Raymond and Betty Uhlik. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife, Elaine Pfund; a daughter; LouAnn (Matthew) Maniaci; a son; Jon (Jen) Pfund both of Monroe, his twin brother: Ronald (Priscilla) Pfund of Monroe; two half siblings: Donald (Duncan) Uhlik of Douglas, Michigan and Brenda (Robert) Armbrust of New Albany, Indiana; five grandchildren: Jacob (Holly Baumia) Jenkins, McKenzie(Brody Whitman) Jenkins, Tyler Maniaci, Mason Pfund and Lilly Pfund; and two great-grandchildren: Kylee and Brantley. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Serivce, 2442 North Monroe Street Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Monday, June 6, 2016 also at Merkle's with Reverend Katie Waggoner of First United Methodist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial where graveside services will be under the auspices of Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138.
