Obituary of Gary Moore

Gary Wayne Moore was born on Christmas Eve in 1949 at Memorial hospital in Monroe, Michigan. He was one of seven children born from the union of the now late Carl Edward and late Betty Jane (Russeau) Moore. Gary attended class at Monroe Public Schools before enlisting into the United States Army, where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War; earning several awards and decorations. Gary married the former, Karen Russeau and from this union came the birth of three children. He supported his self and family as a nurse's aide at the Frenchtown Convalescent Center until an injury became disabling. Gary was a lifelong free spirit that loved to dance and enjoyed life. He was very giving of himself to others. Gary loved to bargain shop and had become quite the collector of angels and other miscellaneous items in his later years. He spent many hours playing bingo, knitting and crocheting as a way of resting the mind. Gary Moore age 66 of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceeded by his brother: Carl E. Moore Jr. and daughter: Judy West. To cherish his memory, Gary leaves a daughter: Susanna (Ken) Smelcer of Redford; son: Eric Dwayne Moore of St. Helen; brother: Pastor Charles (Aurine) Moore of Monroe; sisters: Frances (George) Berry of Monroe, Donna (John) Standifer of Flat Rock, Cheryl (Byron) Lymond of Monroe and Connie (Matthew) Lozano of Newport; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Friends may gather from 4:00pm till 8:00pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe (734)384-5185. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, June 2, 2016 also at Merkle's with Pastor Charles Moore of Church of the Lord Our Righteousness officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial, graveside services will be held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Monroe VFW Post 1138. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the wishes of the family.
