Harold James Dushane was born on November 28, 1945 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the only child born from the union of the late John Dushane and the late Esther (Gloff) Dushane. Harold was baptized later that same year at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. He was educated at Zion Lutheran School and confirmed at the church on March 17, 1959. Harold attended Cantrick Middle School and Monroe High School and graduated with the class of 1963. While at Monroe he was an honor student, a member of the M Club, and participated in cross country and track. He continued his studies at Eastern Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in English and Education in 1973. He served as a Child Care worker for Monroe County Shelter Home. In July of 1976, Harold took a position with the City of Monroe Fire Department. This position quickly grew into a passion for Harold. Harold wasn't afraid of hard work and he often picked up extra shifts to serve his community in a profession that he loved. He steadily rose through the ranks finally obtaining the rank of Captain which he held for several years prior to his retirement in November of 2004. Harold was well-known for his independent thinking and outspoken personality. He could be quite feisty at times, didn't care for change, and was most definitely set in his ways. Harold was very intelligent, and had the ability to converse with anyone and he had knowledge about a plethora of different things. He was gifted with a green thumb and always maintained a beautiful garden. More than anything, Harold, was a loving son extremely devoted to his mother, whom he cared for her most of his life.
