Please share a memory of Arling to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Arling Bruce Mayo was born in Monroe on April 20, 1949. He was one of five children born from the union of the late John Charles Mayo and the late Judy (Farley) Mayo. Arling attended Monroe High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and honorably serving his country from 1968 to 1974. Arling married the love of his life the former Terry Grodi on September 13, 1972 in Monroe. He considered supporting his family as his responsibility and was not afraid of hard work. Arling took employment with the France Stone Quarry working as a mechanic. When he left work at the quarry, Arling went to Bores Tree Service. In 1988 he was injured on the job at the quarry and was forced to take a medical retirement. Arling was a man of strong character. He was very comical and enjoyed making others laugh. Although he could be ornery, stubborn, and even hard-headed it actually seemed to be part of his charm. He was a car enthusiast enjoying getting his hands dirty under the hood. In his free time he could often be found watching his favorite shows on television which usually included home remodeling and working on cars. He had a special heart for his four-legged companions. Arling, age 67 of Erie passed away at 6:30pm, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by two brothers: J. Donald Mayo and Jesse James Mayo. To cherish his memory he leaves a beloved wife: Terry Mayo of Erie; a daughter: Amber Dawn Mayo of Monroe; two siblings: Iva (Bob) Weaver of Ida and John Mayo of Adrian; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070.
