Billy Marion Turner was born April 18, 1943 in Speedwell, Tennessee. He was one of eight children born from the union of the late Herbert A. Turner and the late Alma (McCarty) Turner. At the age of seven, Billy's mother passed and he was raised by step mother: Lucille M. (McCarty) Turner. He moved to Monroe in 1955 where Billy would attend Lincoln School. He married the former Ruby "Jeanie" Smith on September 30, 1961. Billy worked many years for the Dana Corporation before taking a medical retirement. Billy enjoyed being outside hunting, fishing, and camping. Many wonderful memories were made at his favorite spot, The Totem Pole Park in Petersburg. Billy was known for making his delicious biscuits and gravy. He was generous with his time and could "fix" anything. Billy served the Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church where he was a Charter Member as Trustee and Groundskeeper. Billy Marion Turner, age 73, of Monroe passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by: stepmother: Lucille Turner; Father-in-law: Lonnie Smith; sisters: Christine and Gail Turner; and sisters-in-law: Mary and Sylvia Turner. To cherish his memory Billy leaves four children: Christine Turner; Paula (16th CMSAF Retired James "Jim") Roy; Lori (Brian) McDaniel; Tina (Scott) Clawson; siblings: Paul (Ellen) Turner, Vaughn (Pat) Turner, David (Phyllis) Turner, Nancy (Gene) Showalter, Fred (Elaine) Turner; Mother-in-law: Bonnie Smith; Brother-in-law: Gerald(Patricia) Smith; six grandsons: Caleb Roy, Colby Roy, BJ (Darci) McDaniel, Brandon (Amanda) McDaniel, Bradlee McDaniel, and Jacob "Jake" (Beth) Clawson; and eight great grandchildren: Callie, Andie, Brendan, Alexander, and Janie McDaniel, Bailee, Peyton, and Eden Rose Clawson. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 10:00am until a Celebration of His Life at 11:00am on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church, 4875 East Dunbar with his grandsons: Jacob Clawson of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church and BJ McDaniel of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church co-officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe for burial. Memorials for those who desire are suggested to the Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church.
