Donald Leonard Carr Sr., 70 years old of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at his home. Don was born January 19, 1941 to Dadagon Carr and Agnes (Borovich) Carr. He attended Monroe High School and joined the United States Army where he served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Screaming Eagle Paratrooper. Don worked for La-Z-Boy Chair Company and retired from the Local Laborers Union. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time fishing, hunting, and boating over the years. He married the former Lela Hoffman. Don is survived by a son: Donald L. (Connie) Carr Jr. of Rome City, Indiana; a daughter: Kellie (Brian) Banek of Monroe; two grandchildren: Devin Banek and Jordyn Banek; four brothers: Michael (Sherry) Carr, Richard (Candy) Carr, John (Sue) Carr, and Mark (Kathy) Carr; and three sisters: Maryanne Calloway, Ruby Carr, and Debbie (Danny) Massingo. Friends may gather at 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Side Track Saloon, 1025 East Elm Avenue to celebrate his life. Cremation has taken place through Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, and arrangements were entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.
